How do you really keep cats out of the garden?

Hi everyone, sorry if this has been asked before, but I’m really struggling with cats constantly sneaking into my garden. I actually don’t mind them hanging around sometimes, but when they start digging up my plants or scratching the outdoor furniture, it becomes a headache. I’ve tried some sprays from the store, but they either smell terrible or stop working after one rainy day. Has anyone here found something that actually works long-term without being harmful to the animals?
